Clean a Blu-ray Player Lens

So, if you're beginning to experience various problems when inserting discs into the CD-ROM or DVD-ROM units, then perhaps it's a very good idea to clean the lens. Keeping your Blu-ray player cleaned is essential for adequate play. After consistent playing, dust will eventually cover the lens of the player. Once the lens is covered in dust, a thorough cleaning is needed to keep the player from skipping or not playing at all. If the disc is OK or if the same problem occurs in the case of other discs as well, then you'll most likely have to clean the inside of the optical disc. Rather than paying a technician to perform a cleaning, you could perform an adequate cleaning by using products that can be found at your local hardware or department store.
The easiest method to remove dust from the lens is to blow it away with a jet of air. However, be advised, the respective jet of air shouldn't really come from your own mouth, since it would be accompanied by all sorts of micro-particles and saliva. Instead, you should try another device that produces strong jets of air, such as the air bulb used by photographers for cleaning lenses or even a can of compressed air (although the latter solution is not particularly recommended, unless you have a really steady hand).

Using a Store Brought Cleaner
Visit your local department store and purchase a Blu-ray cleaner disk. The average cost is between $11 and $25 for one.
Insert the disc into your Blu-ray drive and turn on your television.
The disc will provide you with instructions to follow on your television. Follow the instructions to ensure an effective cleaning.

In some cases, it will take approximately two cleaning to clean a very dirty lens. If this is the case, repeat steps 2 through 4.
Finally, remove the disc once it has stopped cleaning. Insert a Blu-ray movie into the player. If the disc plays without interruption, then you have successfully cleaned your Blu-ray lens.

A number of people have asked me what changes I made to my 1558 to describe it as “one killer system” (in a comment replying to a poster in the antenna entry). Here’s what I can think of, off the top of my head:
Upgrade CPU from Core i5-450M to Core i7-740QM
Upgrade DVD burner to Blu-ray burner (UJ-235A, Panasonic UJ130, Panasonic UJ130A Panasonic UJ130AS)
Upgrade memory from 6GB to 8GB (system limit)
Upgrade display from glossy 720p to matte 1080p
Replace 320GB HD with 256GB Crucial C300 SSD
Upgrade keyboard to backlit model
Replace lid with one that has all the antennas and which matches the color of my race car
Upgrade wireless LAN card to Intel Ultimate-N 6300
Install Bluetooth 365 module
Install 5620 mobile broadband / GPS card
Use a nice Targus “Unofficial” 16″ slipcase to carry the system
Upgrade battery from 6-cell to 9-cell (genuine Dell)
Make the power supply more sleek – replace the “hammerhead” power cord with a normal one and remove the rubber strap (I use Velcro cable ties to manage all of my cables)
Install Windows 7 Ultimate x64 instead of Home Premium x64
As configured, it gets a Windows Experience Index of 4.9 (yuck!), but that’s due to a poor desktop graphics score from the Mobility Radeon HD 5470. [Of course, the integrated graphics option would probably be a lot worse - if you have a score for that, let me know in the comments.] The lowest of the other scores is a 7.3 and the hard disk (SSD) scores a 7.7.

BD Drive not recognizing Blu-ray anymore

Questions: I have the Optiarc BD ROM BC-5500S. It came with my ASUS M70Vm laptop computer. It played Blu-ray movies fine for a long time (at first I used WinDVD 9, now I have TotalMedia Theatre, both read the movies fine), but last week when I tried to watch U-571 it didn't recognize it. I put in a bunch of other BDs and they didn't work either. Anybody have solutions for me to try? I'm pretty desperate as my laptop is the only way for me to watch Blu-ray discs, and I've spent quite a lot on them. DVDs and CDs still work fine.It didn't come with any software; the drive came pre-installed. I tried to update the drivers in the drive properties window but it said they were already up to date. Dell Inspiron 14R 5420 systems have been tested for support of Windows 8 upgrade. The Inspiron 14R 5420 does support upgrade to Windows 8, with the following open issues directly after upgrade:
Problem: System cannot detect graphic card when Secure Boot is enabled.
Solution: Do not turn on Secure Boot if you intend to upgrade to Windows 8.

Try to install 1704 wireless driver from the driver CD (you must got with your laptop). It worked for me..
