Sony Vaio Blu-ray Drive Burner is not reading DVDs

Questions: I have Sony VAIO laptop with blu-ray drive burner writer. From past few days my sony vaio blu-ray drive is not reading DVDs, but it is detecting all CDs. When i insert DVD, it is trying to read that DVD and it is on the same status but DVD is not getting detected. blu-ray drive burner is giving some sounds. I am not sure whether there is any problem with my DVD ROM or the drives in my system. I am using XP operating system. The blu-ray drive which i am using is working well in other systems.
Answers: go to device manager... control panel>system>hardware>device manager.
right click your dvd rom drive and click properties. somewhere in there you should have a region tab (if i remember correctly) set the region to US which should be a 1(may want to confirm the correct region code) and of course that is if you use US dvd's.
once iuninstalled, you should be able to right click anywhere in the device manager window and click "scan for hardware changes"
Failing that, you should be able to install from "add new hardware" in controll panel, or failing that still, simply reboot.

Sony DVD Drive Buying Guide

Sony DVD Drive Buying Guide

When choosing a laptop dvd drive burner, make sure it's physically compatible with the media you want to read and write. The good news is that virtually all players and burners sold today Sony DVD Drive are designed to read mass-produced (or replicated) DVD-ROM and DVD-Video discs, as well as data and video content recorded on ±R and ±RW media.
Certain brands, speeds, and even lots of media can be incompatible with specific drives Sony VAIO VPCEH3C4E DVD Drive, an issue that arises most often with older hardware and higher-speed media.

All PC DVD rewriters can read and write computer files stored in standard DVD-ROM format, Sony VAIO VPCEH3S8E/B DVD Drive regardless of whether that data resides on read-only, ±R, or ±RW media.
Few rewriters ship with software that lets you read, create, or burn DVD-Audio content. That format has been promised for years, but its limited availability and the ubiquity of CD-based music has hampered its rise, although it Sony VAIO VPCEJ3B4E DVD Drive offers higher sound quality and fidelity. Additionally, there are far more SACDs (Super Audio CDs) on the market than DVD-Audio discs.
The final set of formats to consider are DVD-VR (and its DVD+VR cousin), DVD-AR, and DVD-SR, which are designed for devices that record video, audio, and streaming data in real time. Sony VAIO VPCF13Z8E/BI DVD Drive
Another recent development that's generating a lot of interest is the announcement of dual-layer (DL) recordable media. DVD+R DL media will be available only in tiny quantities until late this year, and dash DL discs are expected shortly thereafter. Sony VAIO VPCEJ3Z1E/B DVD Drive The first dual-layer media will probably be limited to 2X or 2.4X speeds, but 4X discs should appear next year.

Sony Vaio Tap 20

Sony Vaio Tap 20
A 20-inch Windows 8 tablet that fails to live up to the promise. Sony has been growing its own crop of game changers. The Sony Vaio Duo 11 puts its Vaio design ethos into one of the niftiest sliding tablets we've ever seen, that's more than ready to compete with the likes of the Microsoft Surface and the Asus Vivo Tab and Vivo line. Sony VAIO VPCZ11Z9E/B blu-ray drive, Sony VAIO VPCZ12B7E blu-ray drive. This 20-inch Sony Vaio Tap 20 does something else altogether.
Windows 8 marked a major overhaul of Microsoft’s operating system, but it wasn’t just the software that got a makeover. Manufacturers also built new hardware to work with Windows 8’s touch-focused interface, including a diverse range of tablets, laptops and hybrid designs. One of the most interesting products to emerge from the group was an all-in-one PC from Sony. Sony VAIO VPCZ21A9E/B blu-ray drive Sony VAIO VPCZ21M9E/B blu-ray drive
Sony Vaio Tap 20 FOR Big, bright screen Built-in battery Bundled accessories USB 3.0 ports AGAINST Incredibly heavy Poor screen resolution Schizophrenic personality Middling performance
Sony estimates the Vaio Tap 20’s battery life at two hours and 45 minutes. For my battery drain test, I played back-to-back video with the screen brightness set to 75 percent and Wi-Fi on, and the Vaio Tap 20 lasted for two hours and 30 minutes. It’s enough to get through most feature-length movies, but I’d love if it had another hour or two of battery life.

Sony VAIO VPCS12V9E/B Windows 8 - Adjust the Gesture Control Settings

How to adjust the Gesture Control settings

The gesture functions enable you to perform various operations on applications with a hand gesture recognized by the built-in camera on your VAIO computer.

Notes
  • The gesture functions are disabled by default.
  • Sony VAIO VPCS12M9E/B blu-ray drive Sony VAIO VPCS12M9R/S blu-ray drive
  • The camera gesture functions may not work correctly in the following cases:
  • When an application that supports the gesture functions is launched with the functions enabled, the built-in camera indicator light turns on.
  • If the built-in camera is pointing directly to a light source, such as a fluorescent light, your hand gesture may not be recognized correctly.
  • If the built-in camera does not recognize your hand gesture correctly, put your hand back down and try again after a while.
Sony Vaio VPCS12V9E/B Reviews:

Sony's latest Vaio S series laptop is well-specified, comfortable to use and lightweight. It's not perfect though and the very similar but cheaper Vaio VPCS12L9E/B is a better value alternative. It has a slower Core i3 processor instead of an i5 chip, has 4GB instead of 6GB of RAM and doesn't have a built-in 3G modem or fingerprint reader.

Sony Vaio VPC S Series Overheating Problems

Questions: Sony Vaio VPC S Series Overheating Problems
I have noticed that recently my laptop is burning up when playing games thus need help.
Basic background information:
My CPU runs at around mid 60s degree C when doing basic surfing (youtube, and text heavy websites), low 50s degree C if i were to turn on my external fan to high. When gaming, the laptop used to run on around 85 to 88 degree C when I have my external fan on high; however, recently the CPU has gone up to 93 to 94 degree C, in which by that point the computer is not really usable in terms of gaming.
Sony Vaio vpcs12d7e blu-ray Drive Sony Vaio vpcs12e7e blu-ray drive
My computer runs on SSD only, so heating as a result of hard drive is not really an issue. Also the computer is constantly placed at around 10 degree angle on a table, so the computer itself should have enough room to be well ventilated. My external fan is a PacificBreeze SP300, which has been cooling my system by 5 to 8 degree consistently until recently.
Pretty much this problem happens on all the games I play, among them are Counter Strike GO, gotham city impostors free to play, and Arma II DayZ mod.
Sony VAIO VPCS12J1E/W Blu-ray Drive Sony VAIO VPCS12L9E/B Blu-Ray Drive
Solutions: don't open up your laptop yet. instead, disable Intel TurboBoost to prevent the CPU cores from overclocking themselves. it will reduce about 5C-6C off your load temperatures. go to Control Panel > Power Options > choose the plan you're using > Change plan settings > Change advanced power settings > Processor power management > Maximum processor state > set to 99% (instead of 100%).

Unable to Recover to new hard drive - Sony Vaio Sony Vaio vpcs11g7e

Unable to Recover to new hard drive - Sony Vaio Sony Vaio vpcs11g7e
I have bought a new larger hard drive yo replace the one in my laptop. The original Sony one is a Toshiba SATA 500Mb, and the replacement is a Western Digital Scorpio Black 750Gb.
I use the recovery disks to format and install the OS, but when it restarts, I get the following message: 'Windows Setup could not configure Windows to run on this computer's hardware'.
After restarting, I then get 'Windows could not complete the installation. To install Windows on this computer, restart the installtion'.
I have made several attempts, with different options (with/without extra software, default/custom partition sizes), each with the same result. I have even tried a set of recovery disks from another similar laptop, but they don't work probably due to serial number difference.
Surely there must be a way to use the recovery disks to install the OS on a new hard drive, without having to purchase a replacement from Sony?
Any ideas on what to try next (a part from purchasing a non oem set of OS discs).
The only time this has happened to me it was because the recovery disk was a customized Windows image that had a finite set of hardware drivers on there (which is ridiculous, but that's how it was). My only workaround was to use another Microsoft-supplied Windows disk for which I had to pay for a license (again, ridiculous).
On another occasion, with a Dell, I tried the opposite approach and after the install began, it would blue screen. When I contacted Dell about it, the install was tied to a specific serial number and that's what was causing the BSoD.

Sony Vaio VPC S Series Reviews:

VAIO S Series is the perfectly balanced mobile PC. It’s thin, light, and highly mobile, with long battery life that helps you go further and get more done. Every feature is designed for mobility. VAIO S Series is power in motion — see where it can take you.

Sony Vaio VPC S Series Black Screen Problems

Questions: I have a refurbished Sony Vaio VPC S Series laptop with Windows 7. After powering on the logo shows and just goes to a blank screen with the cursor blinking. When i type the keyboard does nothing. I also cannot boot into the bios or safe mode. Any help please?
Answers: 1. sounds like a corrupt/dead hard drive. The logo (the one that shows VAIO) is BIOS. Uhh... i don't know how the EB series BIOS is, but try mashing F2 or F8 buttons (maybe F12?). There should be some hard drive diagnostics in there.
2. I think you must reflash you BIOS if you have a US/Asia model you could find on the site. PS: try to put something bootable inside like hiren boot cd and see if it works,if does with the bootable CD/DVD/Stick you will be able to repair your VAIO.

Toshiba Qosmio X870 VS Toshiba Qosmio X770

Toshiba Qosmio X870
Toshiba has kitted the Qosmio X870 out with an Intel Ivy Bridge Core i7-3610QM CPU with a speed of 2.3GHz that can be overclocked to 3.3GHz.
On top of that the Nvidia GeForce GTX 670M graphics card will give you 3GB of dedicated video memory on top of the 3GB already provided by the integrated Intel HD Graphics 4000 chip.
Moreover, there's a massive 16GB of RAM keeping the operation as smooth as possible.
And, because the native resolution is a pin-sharp 1,920 x 1,080, you'll be able to enjoy all your gaming in Full 1080p High Definition. The way that nature intended.
Alongside the Full HD resolution, the 17.3-inch screen on the Toshiba Qosmio X870 is also extremely bright.

Toshiba Qosmio X770
Designed for anyone who insists on the best, this laptop is ready to rip with a choice of 2nd Generation Intel® dual or quad core™ processor. Plus, it comes with the NVIDIA® GeForce GTX 560M graphics processor with up to 1.5GB of DDR5 discrete graphics memory and NVIDIA® Optimus™ technology, punching up performance when you need it, and pulling it back when you don’t. Graphics-intensive apps? Bring ‘em on.
Comments: This Laptop is the best. It runes everything like a piece of cake, Games, Editing programs, movies etc. The 3D is pretty cool too. All in all a great laptop with one problem that everyone already mentioned, battery life. I got approximately 1 hour 30 minutes max. But i think its well worth it.

This is a really really powerful laptop. I am an engineer and gamer, this is the only computer that I have never encountered with problems in my simulations and games. Powerful graphic card, 7200 rpm sata, high CPU performance... However in power saver mode, things are getting nasty, you can't watch a HD film comfortably. Hence I use this computer always in normal mode, without batteries, only connected to power plug. Although it is a desktop replacement, you can go holiday or travel with it. However, this is not the kind of laptop that you can bring with you to the workplace everyday, or to a cafe in the evening. The design of this laptop is very cool, I loved the smooth transition from grey to scarlet red. Backlit keyboard is awesome. And most importantly, there is no USB socket, earphone mic jack in front of the device, no annoying cable or USB device between you and computer. The only thing that I don't like with this device: High pitch noise coming from the power adaptor. Toshiba service said that this noise is inevitable due to its power, 180 W. If you are going to buy this computer for only surfing in the Internet, watching films, playing chess; forget it. However, if you would like to experience 3D leap of faith in a computer game, don't lose any time buy it.

Sony Vaio SV-T Series Review & External Blu-Ray Drive

Sony Vaio SV-T Series Review:

Sony Vaio T Series 13-inch UltraBook: Good looks, fast performance and long battery life are the standout features of the Sony VAIO T Series (To see Sony Vaio svt13125cg External DVD DRIVE, Sony Vaio svt13126cg External DVD DRIVE, Sony Vaio svt13127cg External DVD DRIVE, Sony Vaio svt14117cg External DVD DRIVE ). However, it's an Ultrabook that could use a bit of refining: we'd like a better keyboard, dual-band Wi-Fi, a matte screen and a USB port on the right side. That said, it's still worth checking out this Ultrabook if lots of CPU speed in a thin chassis is what you're after.

13.3: This is a common display format for subnotebooks. Netbooks, UMPC and some subnotebooks have tinier displays. Nevertheless, the majority of standard laptops has a higher format. The advantage of a small display is, that the subnotebook can be small dimensioned and can be carried easily. Further the small display needs few energy, which improves the battery runtime and in consequence the mobility. The disadvantage is that the reading of texts is a bit exhausting for the eyes, especially with high resolutions.

A strong point of the Sony Vaio T13 is its connectivity options, which include a raft of 'legacy' ports. There are a couple of USB ports on the left-hand side, one of which is of the faster USB 3.0 variety, and on the right-hand side of the machine there is a VGA port, an HDMI port, an Ethernet option and a 3.5mm jack for your headphones or speakers. There's even a multi-card reader, as well.

Sony Vaio SV T Series T13 External Blu-Ray Drive

If you're looking for a external Blu-Ray burner for Sony Vaio SV T13 Series (Sony Vaio svt13125cg External Blu-Ray Drive, Sony Vaio svt13126cg External Blu-Ray Drive, Sony Vaio svt13127cg External Blu-Ray Drive) that delivers high-speed performance, opt for the Sony Vaio SV T13 Series Slim Portable Blu-ray Writer. Sony Vaio AW Series Notebook 18.4-inch Review

Sony Vaio AW Series Notebook 18.4-inch Review The Sony VAIO AW Series Notebook was announced on the Sep 9th 2008 and it’s not only huge at 18.4-inches. It’s also massive in other ways, like the the huge hard drive and 3LED backlighting. The VAIO AW series features a massive 18.4-inch screen with 3LED backlighting, which “is a technical breakthrough found on high-end BRAVIA LCD TVs,” according to Sony. The 3LED technology uses three separate LEDs – red, green, and blue – for pure color reproduction, similar to how three-chip video cameras work. The screen itself is capable of displaying true 1920×1080 HD.
Sony VAIO VGN-AW15G Blu-ray Drive Sony VAIO VGN-AW17GU Blu-ray Drive Sony VAIO VGN-AW25GJ Blu-Ray Drive
The AW Series is a hefty 8.4 lbs, has an HDMI out, NTSC internal tuner and an ATSC USB tuner. This loaded laptop is set to ship in Japan on September 20th for about $2,792 for the standard version and $2,978 for the LED-backlit version. No word on a U.S. release yet, but it will likely be toned down a bit and more affordable once it comes stateside.
This monolith of a laptop is intended to replace the VAIO AR Series and acts as a serious competitor to standard desktop PCs. And it might just do it, considering this computer sports 3LED backlighting, which is a feature in BRAVIA LCD TVs.

Dell Adamo XPS & External CD/DVD Drive Burner

Dell Adamo XPS

At 9.99mm, the Adamo XPS is so thin that it makes the claims of the original Adamo and Apple MacBook Air almost laughable. In the end, though, that's all it is—a system of unquestionable style, with a very minimalist approach to performance and features. The base $1,799 configuration includes a 1.4GHz Core 2 Duo SU9400 CPU, a 128GB solid state drive, 13.4-inch WLED panel, 2 megapixel camera, 4GB of DDR3 RAM, GS45 integrated graphics, WiFi and a USB Ethernet adapter.
The Adamo XPS is the world's thinnest laptop and sports a design that trumps all others, but you will have to make some serious performance and feature tradeoffs.

I have an "Acronis build 2012 Home ISO program" that I use to clone my hard drive. I have the program on a boot-able CD and also on a bootable USB flash drive. The BIOS in the laptop is configured to boot first from the CD drive and then from the USB port. The booting process into the program is intermittent, ie. sometimes the program fully loads and sometimes it just hangs up and always in one of two places. This happens with the CD or with the flash drive. The Acronis ISO program installed 10 times consecutively, without a hitch, on my desk top and my Toshiba A20 laptop, my friends desk top and Fujitsu laptop. Does anyone know what I might try to resolve this.
